Follow The String

Sometimes I imagine that carry a ball of string with infinite threads that I wrap around everyone I meet, then they take it on their own way. We are all intertwined through these connections. Last summer, I took the spiderweb to Kenya, and passed it off to some beautiful people. Come on in. Watch it grow. Help me learn something.

Alllllllmost there...

4 days from now I'll have finished my very first 5K. See Ally run. Run Ally, Run.

I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas until then.

Plane ticket. Check.
Shoes. Check.
Dri-weave shirt. Check.
Super-sexy running tights. Erm, uh, check.

There's not much to pack, so to occupy my time until Saturday, I'm trying to make the perfect running mix. It needs to be about 40 minutes or so and medium-paced so that I don't burn out too fast. I know several of y'all are runners - any suggestions to add?

So far I'm thinking of the following:

Ramp up:
Qué Onda Guero - Beck - Guero
La Tortura - Shakira & Alejandro Sanz - Fijación Oral, Vol. 1
My Love - Justin Timberlake ft T.I - Future Sex/Love Sounds

Energy Boosts:
Is It Any Wonder? - Keane - Under the Iron Sea
Like Eating Glass - Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Looking for You - Kirk Franklin - Hero
I Would Die 4 U - Prince And The Revolution - Purple Rain
The First Five Times - Stars - Set Yourself On Fire

Calm Myself:
Breathe - Telepopmusik - Genetic World
Be Without You - Mary J. Blige - The Breakthrough
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2 - Joshua Tree
Hold My Hand - Van Hunt - Van Hunt

Keep Going:
Stereo - John Legend - Once Again
Get Together - Madonna - Madonna: Confessions on a Dance Floor
Think I'm In Love - Beck - The Information (Bonus Video Version)

Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

Hi There... Just stumbled upon your blog and couldn't help noticing the ONE Campaign links on the side. Good for you!
Sweetest Thing by you too is a good Calm Myself song: happy but soft.
Also, anything by the Fray: maybe "She is" or "Look after You"... Less popular then the ones that get all the radio play, but wonderful songs.
And "Lucky Me" by Sarah Slean for a Pick Me Up. Fast paced, wonderful beats.

Hey if you like Rascall Flatts (I think that's how they spell it) "What Hurts the most" is good country, even for the country averse (I'm a closet country fan, but only of the sappy "my heart is broken" variety. The "I'm a cowboy and I have a huge farm / ranch" variety just doesn't work for me.)
Oh, yes, and a DEFINITE pick me up: I don't feel like dancing by the scissor sisters. Hated this song the first 3 times I heard it, but loved it every time after that... VERY upbeat.

Enjoy iTunes, and if you've got a moment and you're interested, check out my blog at http://meetmyshadow.blogspot.com

I will definitely be checkin back here again soon :D

40 minutes? 5K? If you need some inspiration, I go with "Saeglopur" by Sigur Ros on Takk, or "I Might Be Wrong" on Radiohead's Amnesiac. SR is on itunes, but Radiohead's still bucking the system.

I have to confess that Lose Yourself (title?) by Eminem is a personal favorite, as is Looking for You...good pick. I would also submit You Can Do It by Ice Cube if I may. Just put your back into it girl.

Myles - to clarify: the 40 minutes are for my stretching routine too...but I'm averaging between an 11:30-12 min. mile. I know it's not fast, but it is ALL running and this is the first attempt.

E - love that you're pulling out the ghetto. I'll have to add it.

B - Where was the $800 man before Kenya? I mean seriously!
